WHAT WE LOVE:

In Tom Wolfes 1979 book, ‘The Right Stuff’ he describes the details of the postwar research done in experimental rocket-powered aircraft and the titular pilots of these aircraft who had ‘the right stuff’. His description of these pilots includes a notable few lines about their ‘terrific wristwatches’ with their ‘two thousand calibrations on them and dials for recording everything’. He doesn’t mention the Navitimer by name, but when I read these lines I immediately knew what he was describing.

The Navitimer has a long and close association with aviation and was the watch of choice for AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) with their logo printed on the dial of early models. A few years ago Breitling introduced their first time-only Navitimer, which shares a very similar look to its chronograph brethren.
